Report: Bulgaria to postpone elevated fee for Russian gas transit

MOSCOW, Dec 11 (PRIME) -- Bulgaria will postpone introduction of elevated tariffs for the Russian gas transit in order to join the Schengen zone, newswire Focus reported on Monday citing leaders of the parties representing the coalition government.

"We are very close to Schengen… We must not miss the chance because of the tariffs, this is why we are retrenching in order to follow the European path," former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, head of the party GERB, said. Another former Prime Minister Kiril Petkov confirmed the information.

Bulgaria set a 10-euro excise duty per megawatt-hour of transit of Russian gas on October 13, which accounts for about 20% of the basic gas price on TTF terms.
